Glass Thickness + Safety Specs

A quick primer on when to specify 3/8" vs 1/2" glass and the safety standards that apply.

Thickness selection

3/8" tempered glass is common for standard showers, while 1/2" is preferred for tall or wide panels that need extra rigidity.

Tempering matters

All shower glass should be tempered to meet ANSI Z97.1 and CPSC 16 CFR 1201 safety requirements.

Edge treatments

Specify seamed or polished edges for exposed panels so the glass feels smooth and looks refined.
